Right Hand Rings: A Personal Commitment

Kate Middleton found her prince, but other women are still out there kissing frogs in their search. But successful, independent women shouldn’t be expected to wait for Mr. Right. In today’s world, single women get to have the best of everything, even an engagement ring. Instead of waiting for some man to put a ring on your left hand, explore the wonderful world of right-hand rings and make a personal commitment to being you.

What is a Right Hand Ring?

To be honest, you can wear your rings on either hand and whichever finger you want, whenever you want. Wearing rings on one’s right hand is nothing new, but the new trend of right hand rings is. As the trend goes, a right hand ring is a breathtaking piece of statement jewelry that a woman wears on the ring finger of her right hand. It’s become a symbol of the woman’s contentment with being single, but right hand rings have also been worn (and can be worn) by any successful woman with a fierce sense of style.

Right Hand Rings: The Birth of a Trend

Celebritiies Eve and Minnie Driver have been credited with beginning the right hand ring trend. Both single, both sexy, both successful career women, they each flashed stunning right hand rings before the eyes of the world, delivering a message of independence. This was the birth of the right hand ring trend. Not every girl can afford to spend the big bucks on their right hand rings that the likes of Eve and Minnie enjoy, but it’s possible to make a statement with a dramatic setting or over-the-top design. Extravagant cost definitely isn’t a requirement for right hand rings.

Right Hand Rings: Not All Are Single Ladies

The right hand ring trend drew national attention at the 2007 Golden Globes, when three very well-known actresses each donned one for the “Raise Your Right Hand Ring for Africa” charity campaign.

Patricia Arquette, who was nominated in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama category, wore a stunning onyx and diamond ring set in platinum. Jennifer Lopez wore a 30-carat whopper of a yellow diamond right hand ring befitting her superstar status. Beyonce, who was nominated that year in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy category for her work in Dreamgirls, slipped a 25-carat yellow and white diamond right-hand ring on for the event. Each woman donated $10,000 to a charity based in Africa of their choice as part of the campaign.

Right Hand Ring Style: The Metal

Any woman who can afford a right hand ring is a busy girl, so you need to choose a hard-wearing metal. White gold, yellow gold and platinum are all popular choices because they make for durable, everyday rings you can wear all the time. And when you’re buying statement jewelry, you should plan to make that statement every day. Platinum is more costly than gold, so when you’re trying to stay within a budget, choose a 14- or 18-carat gold that you can afford. Silver, which isn’t as hard-wearing, doesn’t make for the best right-hand ring option.

Right Hand Ring: The Stone

What’s your favorite color? The beauty of a right hand ring is that you can choose any gemstone you want. There’s no traditional expectations, and no one has to buy the ring for you. Diamonds are a girl’s best friend in any shade, and many celebrities pick this option when they’re right hand ring shopping. When cost is a concern, consider a white sapphire instead. White sapphires are diamond lookalikes that will make you look unique and stylish all at once. You can’t go wrong: either you’re a diva with a big diamond, or a fashionista who breaks all the rules with her unique gemstone choices. Colored sapphires are also very trendy, thanks to the aforementioned Kate Middleton. Available in deep blue, royal red and sweet pink, sapphires provide plenty of color options for right hand ring wearers.

Right Hand Ring Style

Some right hand rings may be as expensive as an engagement ring, but they aren’t simply Robbins Brothers engagement rings (or otherwise) that you put on your opposite hand. Right hand rings have a style that’s all their own. Popularly, they are styled as cocktail rings, with multiple, small gems creating a dazzling effect. Solitaire settings are not common in right hand rings, but the whole point of wearing a right hand ring is to express your individual style. If a huge gem in a solitaire setting is your style, you should definitely buy one as your right hand statement ring.

The right hand ring is all about being who you are and getting what you want. It’s a way for you to celebrate yourself, and remind yourself that you don’t have to wait for any man. No, you don’t even have to sit around waiting for your very own Prince Charming. Maybe you’re a Beyonce who already has the perfect man, but who also remains a supreme diva. Even if you’re a married lady, you can still be independent, successful and stylish all on your own. A right hand ring is a great way to remind yourself of that.
